MuseoFest: Restoration Project of the Finnish VL Myrsky II Fighter Aircraft (lecture)

Event 14.11.2026 - 14.11.2026, klo 12.00-12.30 Blenheim auditorium

VL Myrsky was a fighter aircraft designed and manufactured by the State Aircraft Factory during the Continuation War. It was the only Finnish-designed fighter to enter serial production. After the war, all 51 Myrsky aircraft were scrapped. In the early 1970s, the tubular frames of three Myrskys were discovered at a scrapyard and saved. The original engineering drawings, long believed to have been lost, were found in a skip in 1990.

The aircraft conservators of the Finnish Air Force Museum will present the remarkable story of the 13-year restoration project that brought the VL Myrsky back to life, sharing the challenges and milestones of this extraordinary undertaking.

Duration approx. 30 min. Only in Finnish.
